Tuesday Tidbits (No.40)

Happy Tuesday Tidbits, everyone.  I hope your week is off to a good start and you’re adjusting to the changes in weather that appears to be taking place all over.   It seems like over the weekend Fall arrived and there’s no going back.  I’m still munching on my summer veggies but it won’t be for much longer.

Speaking of veggies, let’s start off with today’s featured recipes with a fantastic Oven Fried Fish Curry Noodle Soup from Omnivore’s Cookbook.  The minute I saw her stunning photos from Maggie, I knew I would have to try it!

I love the flavours, the textures, the colours and the ease in which this beautiful soup comes together.  And the nutrition factor makes it the perfect all around meal.  I love trying Maggie’s creations because I’m always learning something new and I am really keen to improve my skills in Chinese cooking.  Visit her blog here and you’ll be hooked, too!  Thanks,  Maggie!

I know  lots of you are salmon lovers so you’re going to love this gluten-free dish that had me going ga-ga.  No, not Lady GaGa…although I must say she looked fabulous at Sunday night’s Emmy’s. didn’t she?  Who knew that she could go from a dress made of meat to super glam gorgeousness?  But back to our dish… and our favourite fish!

Gluten-Free Green Curry Salmon and Cashew with Quinoa | Cotter Crunch

Green Curry Salmon and Cashew with Quinoa (GF, DF)  |   Cotter Crunch

This sweet and spicy dish is packed full of nutrients and anti-oxidants and is just what we need going into the cooler weather.  Not only that – it’s ready in 30 minutes –  gotta love it!

I have to say that I have not cooked with green curry so I’m very excited to make this dish.  Don’t you love that salmon is so versatile?  Lindsay has a beautiful blog and all of her recipes are gluten-free, healthy and simply delicious!  I’m constantly surprised and inspired when I visit her blog and you will be too.  Thanks for sharing, Lindsay!

And on to dessert!   Marie from Healthy Ideas Place has taken a traditional favourite and transformed it into a healthy treat that we can enjoy guilt-free.

The best thing about Fall is the beautiful colours and food, especially apples.  I don’t think I’ve had apple crisp since I was a kid.  I’ve shied away from it because of it’s high sugar content but Marie has fixed that problem!  She is a registered dietitian and knows how to keep the taste while cutting back on the ingredients we don’t need.

I love the recipes on Marie’s site because they are packed with flavour and she’s a pro at transforming unhealthy favourites into dishes that we can feed our families with the knowledge that they are getting the best.   You’ll really enjoy exploring her creations!  Thanks, Marie!

Since we’re in the kitchen, how do you feel about decorating your kitchen with black accents?  Or even making it the main colour?  I used to shy away from black but when I saw these gorgeous rooms from Architectural Digest,  I was convinced that it’s a super way to go!

This is just a tiny kitchen but so sexy!  And those chairs are divine, don’t you think?

I could cook in this kitchen all day.  The combination of black and tan/gold has always been a favourite of mine.

And I’m positively swooning over this!  I find that mixing different textures and materials in a room gives it a unique and eclectic feel and this definitely makes a statement!

I could look at these all day long….

Searching for a new book to read?   Here’s a very extensive list of suggestions of 300 Books Everyone Should Read At Least Once.  I was happy to see a number of books I have read in the top 25.  Who’s read Lord of the Flies?  Such a great classic!

Did you know that every year more than 75,000 tons of used and broken crayons are thrown away by schools and restaurants?  This father had a brilliant idea when one night he was at a restaurant and his young sons were colouring at the table and he asked the waiter what they do with the crayons when they’re done,  he said they threw them out.

Bryan Ware from San Francisco was not about to let that happen and he created a system where he melts down the old crayons and pours them into larger molds so that children with special needs and those staying in hospitals can use them.

They have already made over 2,000 boxes and distributed them to hospitals in California.  Click here to read the heartwarming story of Bryan’s efforts to make things easier for these awesome kids!
