Tuesday’s Tidbits

Untitled3

I LOVE A FABULOUS, DESIGNER KITCHEN!  Long before Pinterest came along, I was searching the web for unique kitchen designs.  My ideal house would have 2 kitchens. (If I had a billion dollars!)  One kitchen would be an industrial kitchen filled with every modern appliance, two 5 burner stoves, and 3 ovens all built at the back of the house that was closed off to guests.  In there, I could be like a mad scientist where I would create some fun dishes and make a mess and then forget about it while I serve my guests.  The pots and pans would be hidden until they left and my other kitchen would be clean, bright and gleaming with desserts and coffees and teas.  Heavenly, right?

Since I`m not likely to have a billion dollars, I`ll have to take my ideas from these architectural beauties.  What`s most important in a kitchen to you?  Light?  Functionality?  Esthetics?  Space?  If you would like to share your links of your favourite kitchens, feel free to include them in the comments section.

For any of you who loved Tommy Smythe on Sarah Richardson’s show, this is his kitchen.  I love the cozy feel of this room.

I think the contrasts of colours, shapes and materials in this kitchen make it so interesting.  The attention to detail makes this one a keeper.

Now THIS is a butler’s pantry.  Although, I would feel as though I would have to get dressed up just to go in there!

The unique colours and huge windows make this one a favourite of mine.  I would LOVE to cook in this kitchen!

This colour is unusual and I like that they have mixed traditional with modern.

My friend, Linda, of Life and Linda recently did a beautiful kitchen renovation and you can click here to take a look.  She has a magnificent home and property in northern California and she shares her pics of every room.  My nickname for Linda is Wonder Woman because she truly does it all and she is a very special person.

Vinaigrette-first

Recently  I met Marie who authors the informative, beautiful blog, ‘Healthy Ideas Place’.   In one of her latest posts she offers some great information on how to make your own vinaigrette.  This is such a healthy alternative to the grocery store dressings and, as she points out, most folks always have the ingredients on hand.  I have long made my own dressings and much prefer them.  It’s great to experiment and see what you can come up with by using whatever is on hand.  Marie gives you the basic formula to get you started.  Check her out here.

P.S.  Check out this site and this site if you want to read about the harmful additives to grocery store brands of salad dressing.  It’s important information.

________________________________alergia_primaveraEveryone is happy Spring is here but lots of folks have to deal with the effects of allergy season.  Here is a great post on StumbleUpon that gives a list of 8 foods and their benefits that will aid in fighting allergies.  If you can do it the natural way, why not?  It’s much cheaper and you get some healthy foods in you at the same time.  Citrus fruits, red grapes, broccoli and nuts are just a few of their suggestions.  Check it out here.

OH WOW, Robyn! Those kitchens, YES! And like you, I love an industrial kitchen with the clean stainless steel and space to spread out! My kitchen is a smaller version of these kitchens you share. I have the checkered floors, the pine harvest table and the black and steel stove! I have many copper pots as well. Oh the beautiful post you have today! Anita

I love the pine harvest tables, Anita and used to have one that was 7 feet long. I bet your checkered floors are to die for. I love the way they define a room. Have a great day and thanks for popping by, sweet lady. xo

Truly some beautiful kitchens Robyn! I especially loved the large windows. I like things open, and love to look out since I am surrounded with God’s beauty in nature.

You’ve done such a beautiful job, Linda, everyone should get a chance to see it! Wouldn’t we have fun cooking in a giant industrial kitchen?! The ‘vinaigrette lady’ has a wonderful blog and I’m so thrilled to have connected with her. Marie has tons of good information and wow – her photography has me wanting to reach through the screen and grab some of her yummy dishes.
Had fun laughing with you last night, WW. oxxo

What a great Tuesdays tidbits Robyn. Kind of like the two kitchen idea that you had, it’s like having one set up for sweet and the other one savory.

Thanks so much, Cheri. Yes, that would be exactly what it would be like except I’d have all my desserts from the bakery because I’m not so great in that department, lol.

I love Tommy’s kitchen and am a huge Sarah Richardson fan. In fact she is the only name in the DVR that automatically records anything with her name in it! I can only image the great things you could make in TWO kitchens! I would love an outdoor kitchen in addition to an indoor one. We are planning a very crude one near the garden consisting of a sink, a counter and a place to plug in a burner for outdoor canning on hot days. It will do for me : )

I love Tommy and Sarah too, Mindy. My sister-in-law and I met Tommy at a design show in Toronto and I thought for certain she would faint, lol. I wish I had thought to take her pic with him but we were all discombobulated after meeting him.
Your outdoor kitchen sounds cool, Mindy. I`d love to spend some time in that garden of yours!

Robyn – I love all the kitchens you linked to, especially the fourth one down with the red and white checkered floor. It’s so bright with all the windows and looks spacious, yet inviting. Love it. And thank you so much for including “How to Make Vinaigrette” in your links. You have a beautiful site!

That’s my favourite kitchen too, Marie. Imagine having all that counter space to work on! I was so happy to be able to include your vinaigrette post – such a healthy way to go! I hope we can collaborate again in the future. Have a great day.

Robyn, my dear Robyn, I would choose the same kitchen,- the blue one – you did.
Mine is all white and small. Even so I manage to cook there a dinner for 10 person easily!
One of this days I’ll take a picture to share with you.

All of these kitchens are gorgeous and I guess if we had a million dollars to blow on a kitchen redesign we could also hire the clean up crew to come in after our big dinners to do clean up. Can we add that on to our dream kitchen list? Take care, BAM
