Celebrating fresh farm produce with a feast in the field has always been a dream of mine. If you’re a regular reader, you know that I love working with Barrie Hill Farms because it’s wonderfully inspiring to create recipes that are fresh from the earth and going straight to my table.
So I’ve been wanting to host a feast at the farm for at least a year now and after talking with Farmer Morris we decided it would be the perfect way to promote the farm to our neighbours to the south in Toronto. It’s a quick drive from there and it’s such a wonderful family destination spot that we want everyone to know about it!
We invited some prominent social media influencers for a tour of the farm and market as well as a feast prepared by the farm’s chef and it was a big hit.
While we were setting up the skies were very grey and it rained off and on but the radar was promising it would let up so we had our fingers crossed.
But when it comes down like this you get discouraged, right? Soon after, the skies miraculously cleared and we had 3 hours of fabulous sunshine. Oh boy, was I relieved!
We started off with some beautiful appetizers – Strawberry Chambord Whipped Cheese Toasts. The recipe for these came from my friend, Kristy’s book, Cooking with Cocktails. You can find the recipe here on Fox and Briar’s blog. Gorgeous! And Delicious!
The strawberry picking season just opened the last week so we were fortunate to include lots of strawberries on the menu. Barrie Hill Farms is one of the premier strawberry farms in the province and I cannot get enough of this juicy sweetness each summer.
All of these photos are from Michael Lishansky of Lishansky Photography. If you love landscape photos, you will fall in love with his images. Take a peek here and lose yourself in the beautiful imagery.
We kept the menu fairly simple with an emphasis on fresh farm produce. The sun was shining and the company was so enjoyable that no one wanted to leave.
Such a lovely venue to kick back, enjoy the beauty of nature and the company of fellow food lovers. We will be hosting two more events this summer and I can’t wait to share more!
I had the best suggestion for dessert from my friend, Suzanne at Capizzano Olive Oils and Vinegars. We used top of the line vanilla ice cream, topped with fresh cut strawberries and drizzled with lemon infused olive oil, strawberry balsamic vinegar and topped with fresh mint and basil. A perfect way to end the day! Cheers!
