Happy Tuesday Tidbits, everyone, and I hope your week is off to a fabulous start. Mine is pretty smooth so far and today it gets even better because I am introducing Lisa from Healthy Nibbles and Bits! Lisa is all about healthy eating and stays in shape through kickboxing, yoga and spin classes. Lisa is also a contributor to Fiterazzi Magazine. Her dishes are full of fresh produce and she believes that adding colour to her dishes, she also ensures that she’s getting the proper nutrients. That pose definitely requires the right vitamins and minerals!
I’m hooked on Lisa’s cooking and this first dish is a perfect example of why we should be including her recipes in our diet. Colour, texture, healthy goodness and flavour – this has it all!
Coconut Bulgur and Butternut Squash from Healthy Nibbles & Bits
I just can’t seem to get enough of butternut squash these days. I love the addition of coconut and pomegranate tendrils – divine!
Spinach Salad with Toasted Pita and Hazelnuts from Healthy Nibbles & Bits
This is no ordinary salad and if you have been having fun with my international recipes you’re going to love this. Lisa has included medjool dates and Japanese seven-spice. The beautiful golden beets really make this dish pop!
Moroccan Beef Chili from Healthy Nibbles & Bits
Have you ever had harissa? If not, then you’re in for a treat. It’s a spicy chili paste used in Northern Africa and Middle Eastern cuisine. This is not your average chili – it has a fabulous blend of flavours that will impress your friends and family with your flair for international cooking.
For more unique recipes, pop over to visit Lisa and discover her skills in creating extraordinary fare. Thanks for sharing with us today, Lisa. I’m a big fan!
You know that I’ve talked a lot about wasting food and it’s definitely one of my biggest pet peeves. Here’s a website that is chock full of helpful information that can aid us in cutting down on wastage, answer your questions on expiry dates, about which foods last longest and much more. For example, have you ever asked yourself the following questions –
- Are eggs safe after their expiry date?
- Is it ok to put hot food directly into the fridge?
- Should you wash grapes before storing them?
- Does vinegar ever go bad?
- Is pink turkey meat safe to eat?
StillTasty.com has a lot of information on food and safety and I’ll bet you can find the answers to any nagging questions you may have. I have been doing a lot of reading about expiration dates lately. Do you know that the dates on most foods refers to the date at which the product remains at it’s best quality? This is not the date at which it expires and is intended to be more of a guideline. Read the article here for more information. It could save you a lot of money!
If you’re a busy parent and feeling stressed about trying to keep up with feeding your kids healthy foods, this post from Real Food Real Deals is a must read for you. It provides some great tips on ways to keep on top of ensuring your family is getting the right foods without driving yourself nuts! (oh yes, don’t forget the nuts!)
Are you spending a lot of time at your desk these days? It’s easy to get lost in our tasks and suddenly an hour has gone by and we haven’t moved. Here are some fabulous exercises from Greatist.com that we can do at our desk. They make it fun! Do some cardio, legs and behind, arms and shoulders – these exercises cover you from head to toe. They have great names too – The Desk Chair Swivel, The Twinkle Toe, The Slog Then Jog. Make your day more productive by following along with these easy exercises and leave work at the end of the day feeling energized. Love it!
After your work out is there anything better than a long, hot shower? Only one thing – a long, hot shower OUTDOORS! What a great way to wash the sweat and stress of the day away!
Which one is your favorite? I love the first one but I’m thinking the thorns from those roses might hurt if you’re not careful!
How is that New Year’s resolution going? Lots of folks choose to join a gym, lose weight and eat better but you can also choose to make a daily conscious decision to be kind and pay it forward. Here’s an inspiring video that will encourage you to do the same.
Have a great day, everyone!

January 20, 2015 at 7:03 amGood morning my friend! I LOVE THOSE SHOWERS! I would need one because I hate tracking in the outside world onto my floors! And of course, it would be fun to have one on a hot and steamy day!
It’s so good to see you. I am rushing off to work, but I just wanted to come by to say hello. Happy Tuesday! Anita

January 25, 2015 at 7:27 pmThe showers are amazing – the 2nd would fit in our outdoor area the best but the top one is amazing. You would need to watch for thorns though! The bulgur and butternut squash dish looks like a perfect lunch. I love doing yoga and was so good about it (doing it, not good at all the poses ha!) but then life happened and I got off track. Looking forward to restarting. Tomorrow sounds like the perfect day!
