Tuesday Tidbits

Happy Tuesday, everyone!  I can’t wait to share my latest blogger discovery with you. Or should I say bloggerS?  This cooking family came up with the unique idea of collaborating on a site to keep them connected while everyone is in a different spot on the globe.  The Woks of Life is authored by Bill and Judy (Mom and Dad),  who are currently living in Beijing, Sarah (oldest daughter),  a recent college graduate and living in the US while deciding on a career path, and Kaitlin (younger daughter). living in the US and attending college.  You can see in the `About` section that this family has a ton of fun together and their common love of cooking truly bonds them despite the thousands of miles of separation.

The recipes on this blog are divine!  Everything is so mouth-watering and I love the freshness of each dish.  This scrumptious chicken dish is one of their latest creations and I know it will be a favourite with readers here.  I am loving the beautiful photography, too!

Roast Chicken on Wild Mushroom Sticky Rice ‘Risotto’      The Woks of Life

The secret to the ease of this dish is the sticky rice.  Instead of spending a lot of time on traditional risotto, Sarah recommends using sticky rice to speed things up.  I love it!  She seamlessly blends Asian and Western cuisine with delicious results.

This is great for both a weeknight meal and special guests.

So many dishes caught my attention but one in particular is going to the top of my list to make very soon – Roasted Ratatouille Pasta.  You know I love pasta and you know I love tomatoes so this is something that I must have – and soon!

The roasted veggies, the fresh herbs, the added, differing flavours of tomatoes – heaven!  I know that this dish will become a staple in my house and I love the simplicity of it.

Thank you Bill, Judy, Sarah and Kaitlin for sharing your family story and recipes with us.  I will be visiting often for more inspiration!

Do you ever wonder what’s going to happen to the millions of books on this planet now that we do so much reading online?  Here’s some very creative folks that have found a way to put them to good use.  I am of two minds about this.  I’ve always thought that books were a sacred thing and to destroy them just seemed wrong but looking at their results, I think I’ve changed my mind.

Bembu.com has a list of 36+ Foods That Heal Common Health Problems.  People are turning more and more to naturopaths and whole foods for healing minor ailments and I believe that they truly do make a difference.  Oranges for allergies?  Papaya for bruises? Can’t hurt to give it a try.

Want to travel around the world with your kids but the hole in your wallet is saying ‘wait till next year’?  You can visit an aquarium, Old Faithful, an African Watering Hole, an eagle’s nest and watch the Northern Lights all on from your computer on a webcam right this very minute.  InkTank has over 20 suggestions of fun places to explore and some are even interactive.  I loved the watering hole and I’m really looking forward to checking out the International Space Station.

Even Cool.com has some suggestions for some of the absolute best things in the world.  I found myself nodding and thinking ‘oh yeahhhh’ to some of these and I bet you will too!

  • explore a glow worm cave in Waitamo, New Zealand?
  • go rainbow peepin’ at Bridalveil Falls in Yosemite National Park?

That one with the books is crazy! I love books and hate to see bookstores getting smaller and smaller.

Thanks for introducing us to Woks of Life Blog. What a fun and delicious way for a family to stay connected. I guess I am still old school there is just something special about going to a book store and thumbing through some delicious cookbooks and touching the pages with my fingers. I am also an avid Kindle book reader but would bot want to be reading that in the sun due to the glare. I also love the paper cookbooks as when I cook, I can tell you there will be messy fingers touching the ipad…What about you?

I had a feeling you would love this family blog, Bobbi! I know what you mean about book stores but I have to admit it has been a long time since I have even had the luxury of spending time in one. If I am following a recipe, I sometimes print it out but usually follow it on my phone. So far no mishaps, lol.
      Thanks for visiting, busy lady!

Ratatoullie is one of my all time favorite dishes!!!! It’s weird that it’s a summer dish, considering it’s HOT – but whatever, LOAD ME UP A PLATE, please! 🙂

What a fun way for that family to keep connected – and that pasta, yum! The first of our tomatoes have just turned from green to just slight orange so red is just around the corner. And with days in the 90’s it shouldn’t take long! Thanks for all the fun finds Robyn : )
