Tuesday Tidbits (No.38)

TTtimthumb

Happy Tidbits Day, everyone!  I hope you’re enjoying your summer and making the most of your time before the kids go back to school, everyone gets serious at work again and the countdown to Christmas begins.  Yes, Christmas!  Can you believe I saw lights up in Costco the other day?? That’s just cruel, in my opinion, ha!

Ok, let’s get started with a recipe that I’m obsessing over!  Lisa from Healthy Nibbles and Bits has created this amazing looking chicken dish that I just had to share.

Baked Peach BBQ Chicken Wings | Healthy Nibbles & Bits

August is Peach Month and I love the originality of this dish.  So unusual yet so delicious looking!  I just have to try this soon.  Can’t you just taste the flavours now?  I thought so – I see you licking your lips, Bobbi! ha!  This week I have a plan to do drumsticks with a raspberry glaze.  Love a fruit and chicken combo!

Before we move on to the fun and silly stuff, I wanted to talk about something serious – GMO’s.  Let me ask you a few questions –

  • Do you want labels on your food?
  • Are you a person who reads labels and makes choices depending on what’s in each product?
  • Are you aware of how many foods you are currently eating that are the result of genetically modified organisms?

There is a movement online that I’m joining to help push the big companies to reveal what is in their products.  Like so many others, I’ve been aware of what’s going on but have not acted on it and it’s time I did if I’m going to stay true to my passion of healthy, whole food eating.

GiGi-Dubois

My friend, GiGi from GiGi Eats Celebrities has motivated me to make the move to help and you should check out her blog to read about the issues.  You can also watch this short video that sums it up and sign the petition to fight for the right to know what’s in your food.

Campbell’s Soup has just announced that as of August 2015, they will be producing GMO free, Organic Soups for Kids.  This is what public pressure can do.  It’s time the other companies were forced to do the right thing as well.

Check out this site for more important info.  And if you’re Canadian, don’t think you’re immune – foods are not labelled here either.

If you’re a blog owner and always looking for free pictures for your posts, here’s a few beautiful shots that you can use any time as long as you be sure to give full credit. Rekita of Rekita Design Studio and Blog has generously offered up these photos for anyone that has the need.  Love this!

I know many of you love beautiful tablescapes (especially you, Linda, aka Wonder Woman!) and Architectural Digest has a list of great designers such as Tory Burch, Aerin, and others who show off their creative talents on Instagram.  I’m going to follow all of them – so fabulous! indoor-dog-house-under-stairs-11

Have you ever wondered what to do with that extra space under your stairs?  How about giving your little buddy a  house of his own?  Don’t you love these ideas?  Click here or on the pics to see more.

The Dog's Dinner - A tiny Jack Russell is pictured getting ready to tuck into a giant portion of fish and chips. This image was taken to highlight the results of new research from MORE TH>N Pet Insurance, which shows how 72% of cat and dog owners feed their pets unhealthy human foods and takeaways every week.

And more on the topic of our favourite friends, (sorry, cat lovers!) here’s a helpful info graphic from doggeek.com that will help you determine which foods are healthy for your dogs.  There’s a lot of misinformation out there on this subject.  If you have young kids, this might be a good printable for the fridge.

Sometimes you see a photo, your eyes go wide and all you can say is ‘WOW’!

di94qy5i7bWhether you’re hanging out with your kids, grandkids or nieces and nephews, here’s a great site that has every imaginable coloring page for free.  Love this – you can go online with your budding artists and pick your favs without having to buy the whole book – have you SEEN the price of coloring books lately?  The generic ones are cheap but if you want one with super heroes or Disney characters, it’s super expensive!

Btw, I always find coloring to be a great way to connect with kids.  Everyone is kicked back, doing their thing and it’s a fabulous time for conversation.  Plus – coloring is FUN and a great de-stressor!

random-acts-of-kindness1So here’s a very cool site that provides suggestions for Random Acts of Kindness and asks for ideas from you as well.  I love the list they provide to get you started.

  • Smile at people
  • Hold the Door for Someone
  • Thank a Veteran
  • Buy a Stranger’s Coffee
  • Say Please and Thank You
  • Offer to take your child’s teammate to and from a game
  • Drop off food for new parents
  • Pack an extra bag lunch so you can give it to someone in need
  • Give blood
  • Make a anonymous card for someone telling them how much they are loved or appreciated
  • Return your shopping carts to the little cart corrals. Then line them up!
  • Ask the Cashier How They Are Doing
  • Donate Books to the Library. Leave a Nice Note in One of Them
  • Give Out Flowers to Strangers
  • Help a Neighbour With Yard Work
  • Compliment Someone
  • Leave coupons you can’t use on top of items at the supermarket
  • Tell someone how wonderful they are (at their job or what great qualities they possess)
  • Take someone’s shift at work

Lots of these suggestions don’t cost a penny and are so easy to give.  I like this site because it was a great reminder.

Oh my goodness, this is a collection of 19 Animals Photographed Doing Things for The First Time.  I’m realizing tonight as I put this post together that I’m somewhat obsessed with animals but I’ll ask you to indulge me once more  and I promise to include other subjects in the next Tidbits, ha!  You’re going to love this though – click on this link or the photos.

Look at that face!! hahaha!

Turkey Vegetable Casserole | Better Home & Gardens

You know I’m a big fan of Better Homes & Gardens and their Healthy Fall Casserole lineup is definitely worth taking a look at.  I’ve been impressed with this publication because over the last few years, they truly have embraced whole foods and when they label something ‘healthy’, it really is.  Many other large companies love to tout healthy recipes but when you look at the ingredients, it’s just not.

With the busy Fall coming up, these recipes will come in handy.  You can usually get two night’s worth of meals out of a large casserole so they’re always a good solution to weeknight meals.

I put this on my Facebook last week but wanted to share it here for those of you who didn’t see it.   I think this is the kind of thing that some people will find hilarious and others will just say ‘huh’?  Which one are you?

teeehee……teeeheee…..that squirrel. I caught one perfectly on camera yesterday, but GEEZE! after looking at the very CLEAR photo I took of his frontside, I said, PUT ON SOME UNDERWEAR, you silly squirrel! teeehehee…

Kindness is the most valuable gift anyone can give or receive, yet it doesn’t cost a cent, but so few buy into it. I guess that means that we have to spill it out every day, in some way! Sounds good to me!

And like always on Tuesday, your shares make me smile, think, and challenge me to GO OUT and try the ideas that are too often forgotten.

How are you today my fine friend?

I love your comments, Anita. You are always the one who makes me smile and laugh on Tuesday mornings.
I agree about kindness. It takes so little effort and can make such a difference in someone’s day.
I’m doing wonderfully, thanks. Except I don’t like it that we’re getting closer to Labour Day but there’s no avoiding it, I suppose! lol
Thanks so much for visiting 🙂

Yay for printable coloring sheets! My daughter can easily color an entire book in one sitting, so I love printable pages. And the random acts of kindness post is great. I love all the uplifting things you post, Robyn. 🙂 Have a great day!

Starting out with Lisa’s finger licking peach chicken wings and Linda’s beautiful table settings and Gigi’s good cause this edition of Tuesday’s Tidbits is all full of fun things. One day when we finally move to a real house will have to get Buddy sorted with his own little man cave under the staircase. Well I guess one good thing about living over here in Asia I am not going to be seeing x-mas lights and I am sure as heck not going to be seeing a Costco… but the later really bums me out…

I have long been a foe of GMO foods. I even give out hamlets that list foods that aren’t GMO. Thanks for bringing this up. GMO foods can make you sick!

I love the link you gave for the coloring pages, I wonder if it would be ok to use the images on my cards, I couldn’t see anywhere on the site if we could use it for personal cardmaking.

Hmmm I’m not sure, Connie. Since they are free, I don’t see why not but perhaps best to contact them and ask – just to be sure.
